A lateral motion is a slide left, I don't think Hogan was sliding? Is this part of Hogan's secret and Mclain is close but missing the point?

Hogan's 5 lessons talks about turning the hips to start the swing. If you do that and I try, it just brings you across the ball. You've got to have some slide or hip move to reposition yourself to get back to the ball. I don't quite get what Hogan did. But he didn't turn his hips to start the swing down.

Hogan's right leg is unique to most golf swings, he seems to move toward the ball, almost a reverse pivot, but not really. You don't see many players do that. When I try, I feel off balance.

Brandon-naples,

Your assumptions are correct according to our research. Hogan was not sliding lateral (hip slide) to start downswing. He was already done by the time he got to the top.
